Sandra Azocar is a lifelong advocate for public services, frontline workers, and equity for all. With over three decades of experience in both the labour movement and non-profit sector, she brings a powerful blend of frontline understanding, policy knowledge, and fearless advocacy to her campaign for AUPE President.
Beyond her elected roles, Sandra chairs AUPE’s Standing Committees on Pay and Social Equity and the Women’s Committee, where she has consistently championed fairness, inclusion, and justice in the workplace.

An AUPE Lifetime Member
Sandra began her career in 1987 with Alberta's Child Protection Services, and has been a proud AUPE member ever since. Her deep commitment to member-led unionism has earned her the trust of her peers. She has served as AUPE Vice President from 2006 to 2012 - and again from 2021 to the present. In recognition of her leadership and dedication, Sandra was awarded AUPE's hightest honour: Lifetime Membership.
Building Strong Coalitions
As the former Executive Director of Friends of Medicare, Sandra led campaigns across Alberta and beyond, fighting to protect public health care to ensure that policy reflects the needs of real people - not corporate interests. Her experience organizing provincially, nationally, and internationally has sharpened her ability to build strong coalitions and win real change.

Sandra is running for President of AUPE because she believes in a member-powered union that leads with transparency, integrity, and bold action. Sandra is ready to listen, lead, and fight for the future AUPE members deserve.
